A Mullingar-based architecture project is among the 55 projects on the shortlist for this year’s Irish Architecture Awards, which was recently announced by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). The Westmeath County Buildings and Library was designed by Bucholz McEvoy Architects and was completed last year.

Fun event is €1million boost to local business

In conjunction with Mullingar’s week of sporting activities, Destination Sport, which takes place next week from June 12 to 20 the Chamber has launched a family day of food and entertainment on June 20. The week long activities for all the family are expected to bring 10,000 into the town, creating a revenue of some €1million.

Winter gritting schedule boosted by 33km

With the treacherous road conditions of the past winter still fresh in the mind of many of the county’s inhabitants, the council this week announced an additional 33.5 kilometres of Westmeath roads which will be gritted in the case of extreme freezing weather conditions.
